Hims & Hers is a leading health and wellness platform (NYSE: HIMS) redefining healthcare by prioritizing affordability, accessibility, and personalized care. You will join as Senior Manager of Data Science, leading the UK team as one of the earliest members of the company's new UK technology hub. This is a foundational role shaping team culture, technical standards, and operations from the ground up.
You will report to the Director of Data Science (US-based) and operate as an integrated part of the global data science organization, not a separate satellite. You'll collaborate daily across time zones with US-based data scientists on shared standards, roadmaps, and technical challenges. You'll partner directly with Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Product leadership to translate business priorities into your team's roadmap and ensure delivery.
Key responsibilities include: establishing the UK team's working norms and technical culture; operating as one distributed function with the US org while maintaining consistency across time zones; partnering with leadership to prioritize competing requests and make roadmap tradeoffs; reviewing technical designs and code at depth to catch issues early; stepping into high-ambiguity problems requiring technical leadership; setting and enforcing standards for code review, documentation, model monitoring, and experimentation rigor; and owning end-to-end delivery of 0-to-1 builds from conception through production reliability and business impact.
You are both a technical leader and people leader: you set direction, unblock decisions, and develop your reports into stronger technical leaders. You'll work closely with the Director to figure out how to best organize a team split across two countries, ensuring the structure delivers maximum business impact rather than simply replicating US processes overseas.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 8+ years in Data Science or ML Engineering, including 2+ years directly managing data scientists or ML engineers
- Track record of joining or helping shape a brand-new team, office, or region from early stage
- Experience working on or leading a team split across countries or significant time zones, comfortable with async workflows
- Proven people leadership: developing and retaining talent, calibrating performance, managing team growth
- Technical credibility in Python, SQL, and applied ML (regression/classification, time-series, causal methods) sufficient to review technical decisions and unblock problems
- Demonstrated ability to sequence roadmaps across competing stakeholder demands with limited headcount and make clear tradeoff cases
- Comfortable translating technical work into narratives for senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with production ML systems (cloud environments, CI/CD, ML Ops) to hold team to production bar
- BS, MS, or PhD in quantitative field (Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Operations Research, etc.) or equivalent hands-on empirical research experience
PREFERRED:
- Direct experience working across US/UK (or similar transatlantic) split teams, ideally within a company establishing presence in one region
- Leadership or review experience in 1-2 of: customer behavior & propensity modeling (churn, LTV, lead scoring), applied forecasting (time-series, anomaly detection, demand/revenue planning), optimization (marketing spend, inventory, resource allocation), or marketing measurement (MMM, multi-touch attribution, incrementality testing)
- Healthcare, DTC/subscription, or pharma background
