Tenstorrent is building cutting-edge AI technology with a high-performance RISC-V CPU from scratch. The company is seeking a Senior Engineer to design and operate the performance infrastructure that underpins both hardware and software teams' work.
In this role, you will own the "plumbing" that enables performance engineers to focus on analysis and optimization rather than manual experiment execution. You'll build benchmarking automation, data collection systems, and workload capture tooling across silicon, FPGA/emulation platforms, and performance models. Key responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain benchmarking automation and CI pipelines (GitLab-based) that run SPEC and real-world workloads across RISC-V silicon, FPGA/emulation, and performance models
- Own SimPoint generation and management infrastructure
- Design performance-data collection into databases with dashboards and visualization tools to surface trends and regressions automatically
- Develop workload capture and replay tooling using QEMU and CRIU-based checkpointing for reproducible tracing and analysis
- Collaborate closely with performance and software engineers to understand workflows and eliminate infrastructure friction
You'll gain end-to-end exposure to CPU performance work, hands-on experience with pre-silicon and post-silicon platforms, and integration of open-source tools into production-grade flows within a deeply technical, collaborative team.
The role is remote, based in the US or Australia, with hybrid options available from Austin, TX or Santa Clara, CA. Tenstorrent welcomes candidates at various experience levels; final leveling and offers will be determined during the interview process.
**Requirements:**
- Strong Linux systems engineering background; comfortable managing lab machines, clusters, and flaky hardware platforms
- Proficiency in Python and shell scripting
- Solid CI (GitLab) and container experience
- Experience automating at scale: job scheduling, artifact management, databases, and dashboarding
- Problem-solving mindset with bias toward owning the systems you build
- Passion for building tools and optimizing workflows to accelerate other engineers
- Curiosity about CPU performance is a plus; deep microarchitecture background is not required
- Must be eligible to access U.S. export-controlled technology (U.S. citizenship/permanent residency or prior license approval may be required due to EAR restrictions)
