Illumio, a leader in ransomware and breach containment, is seeking a Senior Director of Product Security to own and evolve the company's Application and Product Security programs across the entire software lifecycle. This is a high-visibility leadership role reporting directly to the VP of Security, responsible for leading a talented team of AppSec Engineers and the internal Product Red Team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and scaling Illumio's Product Security, Testing, and Vulnerability Management functions
- Owning the Product Security strategy, roadmap, and execution across a rapidly growing product portfolio
- Embedding security into SDLC, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native architectures
- Partnering with Engineering, Product, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to integrate security into product development
- Defining and driving secure code reviews, threat modeling, and risk remediation processes
- Developing KPIs and metrics to measure security impact and inform overall security posture
- Engaging with customers and prospects on product security matters as needed
- Presenting to senior leadership and stakeholders across the business
- Fostering a culture of trust, curiosity, and continuous improvement
The role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring collaboration across the entire organization while helping define long-term vision and guiding technical execution. You'll work in a hybrid model with 4 on-site days per week at the Sunnyvale, CA headquarters.
Requirements:
- 10+ years in Application/Product Security roles, with 5+ years in leadership positions
- Deep understanding of application architectures, secure coding practices, and cloud platforms
- Experience managing offensive security with hands-on experience as a security tester
- Strong communication skills to explain complex security topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and charting paths forward with incomplete information
- Proven track record as a collaborator and relationship-builder across functions
- Experience engaging with customers and earning trust through transparency and technical clarity
- Proficiency in both technical execution (code review, tools selection) and executive-level storytelling
- Familiarity with Ruby, C/C++, and Golang
- Comfortable working in multi-cloud and on-premises environments
- Experience with both SaaS and on-premises software delivery models
