Grover, founded in 2015, is a European leader in device subscription and circular economy solutions, enabling consumers and businesses to access over 1,000 tech items on flexible terms while refurbishing and recirculating devices to reduce e-waste. You will join the Data Platform team as a Senior Data Engineer, reporting to the Data Platform Lead. The team is undergoing a significant transformation, migrating from Redshift, Tableau, and Redash to Snowflake, dbt, Looker, Airflow, and Airbyte, while shifting from centralized to decentralized analytics. You will work alongside senior Analytics Engineers and another Senior Data Engineer in a hands-on role with substantial influence over Grover's long-term data infrastructure strategy. Key responsibilities include: • Architect, scale, and maintain high-volume data ingestion pipelines, including preprocessing and parsing complex payloads before landing in the warehouse • Build end-to-end automations across AWS (S3), Airflow, and the cloud data warehouse while stabilizing, documenting, and migrating legacy data flows • Own and evolve Apache Airflow as a platform, driving version upgrades, configuration, and architectural best practices • Implement monitoring, alerting, resource tracking, and automated data quality checks to diagnose pipeline issues at root cause • Take active responsibility for data platform costs (e.g., Snowflake credits), optimize warehouse performance, and build systems to track compute usage down to individual user level, ensuring ~30 data champions operate efficiently and are accountable for costs • Serve as a senior technical voice on platform decisions and enable decentralized analytics by building a platform that serves ~30 data champions The role is full-time (40 hours/week) with a minimum of 3 days per week on-site at the Berlin HQ (Tuesday-Thursday). Requirements: • 5+ years of data engineering experience with deep proficiency in Python, SQL, and modern ELT design patterns, ideally within dynamic tech companies • Hands-on production experience with modern cloud data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift) and Apache Airflow • Proven experience designing cloud data infrastructure (ideally AWS) and provisioning scalable environments using Terraform • Solid track record with Git, testing frameworks, CI/CD, proactive documentation, and reducing technical debt • Strong cost-ownership mindset with experience in (or demonstrated value for) building usage tracking, attributing costs to specific users or queries, and proactively optimizing platform costs • Pragmatic systems thinker who translates business requirements into technical solutions and communicates effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English • Nice-to-haves: hands-on experience with dbt, Kubernetes, and Kafka
