Voyager Technologies is seeking a Special Tooling Group Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of tooling engineers, designers, and technicians supporting solid rocket motor (SRM) and aerospace propulsion programs. This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of manufacturing engineering, quality assurance, and program execution in a highly regulated defense and space environment.
You will lead, develop, and retain a specialized team while establishing and enforcing tooling group policies, standard operating procedures, and operational standards. Key responsibilities include managing government and company property control systems in compliance with FAR 52.245, overseeing configuration management of all special tooling assets, and applying Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5 across design, drawing review, and inspection planning.
You will interface with manufacturing engineering, design engineering, quality assurance, and program management to define tooling strategies from concept through production. This includes directing tooling inspection planning, first-article inspection (FAI), and periodic calibration campaigns; managing tooling capital planning and asset acquisition; and representing the tooling group at design reviews (PDR, CDR) and manufacturing readiness reviews (MRR).
Additional responsibilities encompass managing tooling budgets and resource allocation, collaborating with supply chain and procurement on outsourced fabrication, driving continuous improvement initiatives to reduce lead times and costs, ensuring ITAR and export control compliance, and championing safety and quality standards across all tooling operations.
Required: 15+ years of progressive experience in tooling or manufacturing engineering in aerospace/defense with demonstrated SRM or propulsion program support; proven team leadership and development experience; expertise in government property control systems (FAR 52.245); expert-level GD&T application per ASME Y14.5; hands-on configuration management experience with tooling records and ECO processing; and broad familiarity with aerospace manufacturing and inspection processes including precision machining, composite tooling, assembly fixtures, welding, CMM, optical measurement, and functional gauging.
