Rocket Lab is seeking a Software Technical Project Manager to lead software development and integration efforts for space-to-space communications, space-to-ground communications, payload software, and data security systems on a constellation of spacecraft. This role manages embedded systems development for government programs and requires hands-on coordination with internal engineering teams, external contractors, and subcontractors.
Key responsibilities include managing the software development lifecycle for routers, radios, and laser communication devices; overseeing supplier and subcontractor performance; maintaining product development roadmaps and schedules; designing simulation and test approaches for constellation networking; defining KPIs for development teams; establishing cadence for feature delivery; developing staffing plans with senior leadership; planning major integration points and testing; leading agile ceremonies (increment planning, stakeholder reviews, retrospectives); and establishing software development standards to ensure quality and compliance with customer requirements.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of industry experience in computer science, software engineering, or aerospace engineering. Required qualifications include 3+ years of project management experience with external contractors, thorough understanding of network software and the software development lifecycle (including Scaled Agile/SAFe), experience with Jira, systems engineering methods (trades, requirements management, performance characterization, interface management), an active Secret clearance, and U.S. citizenship. Nice-to-have qualifications include active TS/SCI clearance, Master's degree in a technical discipline, experience with SDA NEBULA architectures, cybersecurity controls, encryption, and team leadership experience. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Business Operations and is based at Rocket Lab's Long Beach headquarters.
