Roblox is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Engine Networking Team, responsible for real-time state synchronization and end-to-end asset delivery across the platform. You will manage and empower a team of engineers building high-performance, low-latency network infrastructure that enables tens of millions of concurrent players to experience seamless, synchronized gameplay across desktop, mobile, and console platforms. In this role, you will oversee the architecture, execution, and career development of engineers working on network state synchronization and asset streaming systems. You'll drive the technical roadmap for systems that connect millions of concurrent users worldwide, ensuring reliable content delivery under strict bandwidth, storage, and memory constraints. Your responsibilities include guiding technical strategy around low-level network stacks, custom protocols, asset streaming and caching architectures, and fostering cross-functional alignment across platform, engine, content, and infrastructure teams. The role requires deep expertise in game networking, asset pipelines, and content delivery systems. You'll work on optimizing transport-level performance, Linux networking, QoS, and congestion control algorithms while balancing trade-offs down to the millisecond and byte. You'll advocate for engineering growth, operational quality, and continuous technical excellence while helping your team navigate complex architectural decisions in resource-constrained environments. Roblox operates on a hybrid schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday onsite at San Mateo headquarters, with optional presence on Monday and Friday. REQUIREMENTS: - 8+ years of total software engineering experience, including experience managing or leading high-performing systems, networking, or content-delivery engineering teams - Proven experience managing, leading, or mentoring engineering teams working on high-performance, low-latency network infrastructure or content-delivery/asset-streaming systems in client/server environments - Track record driving execution and architectural roadmap for complex multithreaded systems connecting millions of concurrent users worldwide - Demonstrated experience delivering systems supporting multi-platform deployments (desktop, mobile, console) with understanding of bandwidth, storage, and memory constraints for each platform - Experience building systems in resource-constrained environments where CPU cycles and bytes are critical - Highly proficient in C++ with deep appreciation for systems-level programming, CPU/memory behavior, smart pointers, templates, and custom allocators - Knowledge of transport-level optimizations, Linux networking, QoS, and congestion control algorithms - Ability to guide technical strategy and help teams navigate complex trade-offs PREFERRED: - Background in game engine development, game networking, asset pipelines, or content streaming with deep familiarity in game loop architecture, state synchronization, and asset loading/prioritization - Experience with asset delivery path including CDNs, caching layers, cache eviction, download scheduling, prefetching, compression/decoding, and streaming under tight memory budgets
