xAI (SpaceXSI) is building Super Intelligence to help humanity understand the universe. The Supercompute Observability Software team owns keeping supercompute centers running reliably at unprecedented scale for frontier AI training and inference. You will design, build, and operate multi-service production systems that enable reliability monitoring, predictive alerting, upgrade/change/risk management, and site-wide impact assessments across large, heterogeneous, always-on clusters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and operate production systems (UI, APIs, data pipelines, auth, on-call) for reliability, uptime monitoring, and predictive alerting
- Build predictive and analytical tools that inform better design and operations of current and future supercompute centers
- Develop frontend visualizations, interactive dashboards, and UI components presenting processed data in real-time views for operators, capacity planners, and engineering stakeholders
- Work directly with users in person to rapidly incorporate feedback and process improvements that increase GPU uptime
- Partner closely with datacenter operations, AI research, and facility infrastructure teams
The role requires full-time on-site presence at a SpaceX office in Memphis, with travel to supercompute centers (25-50% based on need) and flexibility for extended hours or weekends on mission-critical deadlines.
REQUIREMENTS:
Basic qualifications:
- Programming experience in Python, Rust, C++, Java, or similar languages
- Experience with Postgres, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, or similar database management systems
- Proven ownership of correctness-sensitive systems (state machines, workflows, operational data where inaccurate state has real-world impact)
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams
- Super Intelligence (SI) driven software development practices
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or STEM discipline with 3+ years professional software development experience; OR 5+ years professional software development experience without degree
- Experience building or operating large-scale observability, telemetry, or real-time analytics systems
- Experience with time-series or analytical databases (Prometheus/VictoriaMetrics, ClickHouse, InfluxDB) and streaming/high-volume telemetry pipelines
- Experience building observability dashboards and alerting with Grafana, New Relic, Splunk, or similar
- Frontend experience with React, Angular, or comparable JavaScript framework for critical operations UIs
- Experience operating services on cloud or on-prem infrastructure with Docker/Kubernetes in production and automated CI/CD deploys (ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, etc.)
- Experience with HPC or supercomputing environments (Slurm schedulers, GPU/accelerator telemetry, high-speed fabrics, parallel filesystems)
- Experience integrating with industrial/OT data sources (SCADA platforms like Ignition, tag historians, Modbus/OPC-UA) or power/cooling infrastructure telemetry
