Salary: USD 146,000 - 225,000 / annual

Affirm is a fintech company that provides flexible payment solutions, allowing customers to pay over time with transparency and no hidden fees. The Streaming team is responsible for all data infrastructure and drives the strategy for event-driven architecture, stream processing, data exploration, discovery, and validation. The team leverages open-source technologies like Kafka, Flink, and Schema Registry, and builds custom solutions as needed. In this role, you will work on identifying and executing new use cases for data infrastructure, designing and scaling existing systems, and collaborating with other teams to promote optimal data usage across the company. You will break down larger projects into individual tasks, deliver them in multiple phases, and collaborate with peers to ensure timely delivery. You will support the product development lifecycle by working with product management, design, and analytics teams—participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on decisions that balance risks and trade-offs. You will also support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating issues when needed, and participating in on-call rotations. Additionally, you will contribute to team culture by engaging in growth and development activities, including participation in the interview process. Requirements: - 1.5+ years of experience as a software engineer - Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems - Proficiency in Python or Kotlin - Familiarity with distributed systems building blocks and technologies such as AWS, Kafka, Flink, and Kubernetes - Ability to translate business scenarios into solutions that interact with multiple software components, with clear, well-tested, and extensible code - Comfortable navigating large codebases, debugging others' code, and providing constructive code review feedback - Demonstrated ownership of your own growth and proactive feedback-seeking from team, manager, and stakeholders - Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with a global engineering team - Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience
