Roblox is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Data Access team within Infra/Storage. You will work on EaaS (Entities-as-a-Service), Roblox's large-scale managed OLTP access and management platform that powers tens of millions of queries per second across thousands of services.
The role sits at the intersection of distributed systems engineering, reliability engineering, and platform architecture. You will build and evolve infrastructure that abstracts the complexity of distributed databases and caching systems behind a consistent, safe, and highly productive developer experience. This enables teams across Roblox to safely build and operate stateful systems at massive scale without requiring deep database expertise.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and evolving EaaS, the managed OLTP access platform powering tens of millions of QPS across hundreds of services
- Designing infrastructure that provides a consistent, safe, and productive developer experience for database and caching access
- Driving reliability and scalability improvements across distributed systems, including adaptive flow control, workload isolation and governance, efficient database usage, and large-scale caching behavior
- Leading end-to-end technical execution—architecture, implementation, rollout, production operations, and incident response for mission-critical infrastructure
- Analyzing real production traffic patterns and failure modes to improve platform reliability, operational predictability, and scalability
- Improving platform safety, observability, deployment reliability, and operational excellence
- Partnering with teams across Roblox to solve scalability and reliability challenges for critical production workloads
The team operates at massive scale, solving hard infrastructure problems that directly impact Roblox-wide stability and performance. Roblox has tens of millions of daily active users exploring, creating, and connecting in 3D immersive experiences.
Office presence is Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday onsite, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 1+ years of experience building large-scale backend or infrastructure systems
- Understanding of building systems that operate at high QPS with low-latency requirements (a plus)
- Experience working on infrastructure or performance-critical backend systems (a plus)
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages: C#, C++, Go, Python, or similar
- Curiosity and passion for solving open-ended problems; ability to identify challenges, develop deep understanding of systems, and drive solutions collaboratively
- Strong teamwork and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Long-term mindset; willingness to take a long view to drive collaboration and build systems
