Salary: USD 140,000 - 155,000 / annual
FamilyWell is seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to design, build, and ship features across their Registry platform. You'll work across the entire stack—frontend, backend, and database—while building and maintaining integrations with core healthcare platforms including Healthie (EMR), Candid (RCM), Spruce (messaging), and HubSpot.
Key responsibilities include designing and evolving database schemas in Postgres, writing and maintaining APIs and webhooks with attention to idempotency and data reconciliation, and partnering with Product, Data, and Clinical Operations teams to translate requirements into shipped software. You'll write comprehensive tests (unit, integration, end-to-end), participate in code review, support CI/CD pipelines and deployments, and troubleshoot production issues. All work must follow HIPAA and security best practices for handling protected health information (PHI).
This is a fast-paced remote role in a healthcare startup environment where you'll communicate clearly with cross-functional partners and work independently to solve complex problems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3–6+ years of professional software engineering experience as a full stack developer
- Proficiency with modern JavaScript/TypeScript stack (React/Next.js frontend; Node.js or Python backend)
- Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with relational databases (Postgres preferred)
- Experience building and consuming REST APIs and integrating with third-party platforms/SaaS tools
- Comfort working across the full stack (UI, backend services, data layer) rather than specializing in one area
- Strong testing discipline and code quality habits (unit/integration testing, code review, documentation)
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced remote startup environment with clear cross-functional communication
- Experience using AI-powered development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to accelerate coding, testing, and debugging
NICE-TO-HAVES:
- Healthcare or regulated industry experience with HIPAA and PHI handling familiarity
- Hands-on experience with healthcare platforms (Healthie, Spruce, Candid, athenahealth, or similar EMR/RCM systems)
- Healthcare data experience with clinical, claims, or operational data in warehouse/BI environments (Snowflake, dbt, Sigma)
- Familiarity with healthcare data standards and interoperability (FHIR, HL7, X12/837-835)
- Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS/GCP), containerization (Docker), and CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions)
- Prior early-stage startup experience with comfort in ambiguity and shifting priorities
