Sierra is a leading platform for customer-facing AI agents, serving major brands like The GAP, Rocket Mortgage, SoFi, Sutter Health, and SoftBank. The company recently achieved FedRAMP High certification, enabling expansion into the US public sector. Sierra is building its founding public sector team to transform how government institutions serve citizens and engage with constituents.
In this role, you will design and build production-grade AI agents for Federal and state government institutions. You'll partner closely with industry leadership to establish the public sector team, including capture motion, market strategy, and product scaling. Working directly with government partners, you'll understand their urgent needs and identify novel opportunities to expand impact—such as outbound contacts or long-horizon agents. Your direct customer work will guide the evolution of Sierra's core platform, surfacing unmet needs, prototyping new tools and features, and collaborating with research, product, and platform teams to shape the future of AI agent development.
Sierra is primarily in-person, based in San Francisco, with growing offices across North America, Europe, and Asia. The company is guided by core values: Trust, Customer Obsession, Craftsmanship, Intensity, and Family. Co-founders include Bret Taylor (Board Chair of OpenAI, former co-CEO of Salesforce, former CTO of Facebook, early Google PM and co-creator of Google Maps) and Clay Bavor (18 years at Google, led Google Labs, started Google's AR/VR effort, led Google Lens and Google Workspace product/design teams).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Full stack software development skills and familiarity with AI development processes
- Passion for public sector work and belief in the potential of institutions to transform outcomes for constituents
- Comfort working directly with customers to understand needs and solve real-world problems; ability to coordinate with public servants to understand workflows
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience building conversational or long-horizon agents using proprietary or open source frameworks
- Demonstrated track record handling ambiguity (e.g., founding team experience, new initiatives at large enterprises, forward deployed engineering)
- Prior understanding of government work, including procurement, regulation, and partnership patterns
