Sierra is the leading platform for customer-facing AI agents, serving major brands including The GAP, Rocket Mortgage, SoFi, Sutter Health, and SoftBank. The company is transforming how enterprises serve customers and grow their businesses through AI-powered solutions. As a Software Engineer on the Agent Builder team, you will work on four core areas: 1. Simulation & Benchmarking: Design and build a simulation platform to test AI agents against real-world scenarios, including work on tau-Bench for comprehensive agent evaluation. 2. Content Management: Create intuitive, no-code tools that enable non-technical users to guide, configure, and test AI agents effectively. 3. Agent Development Lifecycle: Adapt traditional software development methodologies to handle AI agents' unique challenges—non-deterministic behavior, natural language interactions, and LLM dependencies. This includes implementing Sierra's Agent Development Life Cycle framework. 4. Generative Agent Development: Accelerate agent creation using generative tools like Cursor and Claude Code. Build self-improving systems that learn from real-world interactions, customer feedback, and self-play mechanisms. You will work in a high-autonomy culture where each team member has significant agency to drive customer impact. The role emphasizes balancing Craftsmanship (attention to detail and quality), Customer Obsession (understanding business goals and relentlessly driving outcomes), and Competitive Intensity (shipping fast and winning). Sierra is primarily in-person in San Francisco with growing offices across North America, Europe, and Asia. The company was founded by Bret Taylor (former Salesforce co-CEO, Facebook CTO, Google Maps co-creator, current OpenAI Board Chair) and Clay Bavor (18-year Google veteran who led Google Labs, AR/VR, and Google Workspace). REQUIREMENTS: - 4+ years of hands-on experience building production products and systems - Ability to build and ship full-stack solutions - Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience - Passion for being on the frontier of AI products - High motivation and agency to drive outcomes PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience building AI-powered products - Strong design sensibility - Experience with Go and TypeScript - Background in developer tooling, programming languages, or databases - Leadership experience on technical projects or teams
