Xona Space Systems is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to the development and integration of desktop applications that interact with in-house satellite receivers and to write application code for satellite subsystem components. The role is part of Xona's mission to deliver real-time, centimeter-level positioning intelligence via Pulsar, an advanced positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) satellite infrastructure in low Earth orbit.
You will work in a fast-paced startup environment, balancing independent work with collaborative team contributions to deliver mission-critical solutions. Responsibilities include developing and integrating desktop applications for satellite receiver interaction, writing embedded application code for satellite subsystems, hands-on testing and prototyping with development kits and hardware analysis tools, and contributing to software architecture and embedded systems design.
The ideal candidate thrives in dynamic startup settings and can confidently work both independently and collaboratively. This role requires strong technical depth in embedded systems, hardware communication protocols, and real-time systems.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficiency in C and Python
- Experience with hardware communication protocols: RS-485, UART, I2C, CAN, SPI, and Ethernet TCP/IP
- Strong experience with PyQt/PySide or Qt-based GUI development
- Hands-on experience with testing and prototyping (dev kits, logic analyzers, bitstream decoding)
- Software architecture, embedded systems development, and Bash scripting experience
- Real-time operating systems (RTOS) experience
- Background in control systems and/or motor control
- Experience as a team lead or manager
Security Requirements: Successful candidates must obtain and hold a security clearance at the reliability status level and pass security assessment for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR compliance.
