Lila's Research Operations team runs automated lab workflows that power their science. As Shift Supervisor, you own reliable execution of those workflows across your shift, serve as the technical lead for engineers running them, and directly manage and develop a team of Research Operations engineers. You are the first point of accountability for run quality, the first source of operational guidance for engineers on shift, and a critical link between the bench and the automated systems.
This is an on-site, second-shift role (2:00 PM–10:00 PM). You'll lead, coach, and develop talented minds in Research Operations, creating an environment where they can grow, take ownership, and do their best work.
Key responsibilities include: owning safe, reliable execution of automated lab workflows while meeting quality, throughput, and operational performance targets; serving as technical lead for engineers on shift with real-time guidance and prioritization; managing, coaching, and developing direct reports with clear expectations and actionable feedback; monitoring run performance and system health in real time, independently resolving common issues and escalating complex problems; managing accurate shift handoff documentation to ensure seamless continuity; flagging QC/QA deviations promptly with high attention to detail; partnering with scientific, engineering, and automation teams to troubleshoot and improve operational performance; and supporting tech transfer by validating automated workflows against manual processes.
Required qualifications: 5+ years hands-on experience in lab automation, research operations, high-throughput screening, or related technical environment; prior formal people-management experience with direct reports in a laboratory, technical, or operations environment; experience operating and troubleshooting automated liquid handling platforms (Hamilton, Lynx, Echo, or similar); experience leading and coordinating workflow execution in a team setting; strong foundational knowledge of assay design, execution, and interpretation; experience identifying operational issues and driving root-cause investigation to resolution; clear communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Bonus qualifications: degree in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Biotechnology, or related field; prior experience managing a shift or technical team in highly automated or high-throughput laboratory; experience improving production protocols or supporting tech transfer; familiarity with QC/QA systems, deviation management, SOP development, and continuous improvement methodologies; familiarity with ELN, LIMS, or laboratory operations software.
