Physical Intelligence is seeking a Shift Lead to manage day-to-day operations at their San Francisco robotics facility. This role bridges research, hardware, and software teams to drive data collection and production for general-purpose AI robots. You will provide on-site floor leadership, supervising and developing a team of operators while ensuring smooth data collection and production continuity. Key responsibilities include assigning work, adjusting resources in real-time, training operators on work standards, and maintaining quality and throughput metrics. You'll act as the primary on-site point of contact, maintaining tight communication loops with research, hardware, and software teams—proactively escalating technical blockers, hardware failures, and process bottlenecks through detailed shift handoff notes. You will own factory throughput and data quality for your team, identifying deviations from standard work and taking immediate corrective action. Safety is paramount: you'll enforce PPE compliance, identify unsafe conditions, and drive continuous improvement on the floor. The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in a STEM field or Operations (or equivalent practical experience) and brings 3–5 years in tech operations, manufacturing, or fast-paced physical environments—ideally robotics or autonomous vehicles. You'll have 2+ years managing hourly, shift-based teams. You're detail-oriented, comfortable with operational dashboards and learning proprietary software interfaces, and excel at translating operational gaps into structured feedback for technical teams. You thrive under pressure with a bias for action, manage competing priorities with limited resources, and track KPIs to inform performance management. Experience in robotics is a bonus.
