Zoox is developing the first ground-up, fully autonomous vehicle fleet. The Advanced Hardware Engineering team is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to own the Primary Compute Unit (PCU) program end-to-end—the compute system that runs the AI stack enabling autonomous driving.
You will work cross-functionally with vehicle engineering, systems engineering, software, safety, supply chain, quality, manufacturing, and integration teams to achieve strategic objectives and tactical milestones. Key responsibilities include:
• Drive the PCU program forward with thought leadership, supporting architecture alignment, hardware development, validation, integration, and cross-functional communication.
• Translate corporate strategy and milestones into detailed product roadmaps, timelines, and deliverables in partnership with department leaders.
• Create and maintain program assets and communication channels ensuring accountability and clarity across all team members.
• Plan work with internal engineering and test teams using task management systems (e.g., JIRA) to structure, communicate, and track deliverables.
• Define and track resource requirements and spend against budget in collaboration with Finance teams.
• Manage technical supplier activities including build planning, execution, and end-of-line testing; partner with procurement and supplier quality teams.
• Coordinate with in-house manufacturing experts to ensure final PCU assembly readiness, on-time parts delivery, and specification compliance.
• Coordinate root-cause analysis and issue resolution for fleet issues, ensuring cross-functional communication and prioritization.
• Provide concise, effective communications to stakeholders on program status, risks, and accomplishments via written and verbal presentations.
• Facilitate technical and non-technical conversations, align team perspectives, and support decision-making through options matrices.
• Establish disciplined business and meeting cadence with clear agendas for critical topics.
This is a fast-paced startup environment where you may be asked to wear multiple hats. Success requires the ability to solve challenging problems across numerous cross-functional teams, deliver milestones with complex dependencies, and scale impact through structured ways of working. Expertise in influencing without formal authority and "herding cats" is essential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
• At least 10 years of work experience, with at least 5 years in program management
• Deep experience with hardware development and HW/SW integration
• Significant experience working with suppliers (JDM, CM) to deliver products from conception to production
• Proficiency with complex project management tools (JIRA, Smartsheets, etc.)
• Strong track record managing complex, cross-functional projects
• Ability to handle rapid design cycles; flexibility and composure in the face of uncertainty
• Self-motivated, proactive problem-solver
BONUS QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in the automotive industry or prior compute systems development
• Strong references demonstrating ability to build working relationships with senior leaders and engineers across functions
