Skydio is the leading US autonomous drone company, serving defense, public safety, and enterprise customers. The company combines expertise in artificial intelligence, hardware, and software to deliver fully autonomous drones with advanced computer vision and machine learning capabilities.
You will join the end-to-end imaging team as a key contributor responsible for architecting and developing cutting-edge camera subsystems for current and next-generation autonomous drone products. The team manages the complete lifecycle of camera systems—from requirements definition and hardware bring-up through tuning, validation, and mass production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead development and integration of camera subsystems for autonomous navigation, professional media capture, and industrial inspection
- Design and bring up ISP (Image Signal Processor) and camera hardware
- Configure and optimize ISP and encoder pipelines for real-time performance
- Collaborate with image quality, calibration, and test teams to deliver production-ready camera software
- Develop next-generation image processing algorithms optimized for autonomous flight applications
- Bring up and debug new hardware platforms and prototypes
- Contribute to low-level debugging and performance optimization across the imaging stack
You will work closely with the broader software organization to establish a strong foundation for the rest of the autonomous flight stack, ensuring camera systems reliably support navigation, situational awareness, and media capture in demanding field conditions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proven experience with ISP development on ARM-based Linux/Android SoCs, especially Qualcomm platforms
- Deep understanding of ISP pipeline architecture, including front-end, Bayer processing, and post-processing stages
- Strong background in algorithm development across CPU, DSP, GPU, and ISP pipelines
- Hands-on experience with real-time 3A algorithms (auto-exposure, auto-white-balance, auto-focus)
- Familiarity with Android Camera HAL3, Linux V4L2, AVC, and HEVC standards
- Experience with GStreamer and GPU shader-based implementations for image processing (Debayering, lens shading, etc.)
- Strong embedded development experience, including firmware for physical hardware
- Proficiency in modern C++ in real-time, embedded environments
- Python scripting and development skills
- Skilled in hardware bring-up, low-level debugging, and performance optimization
- Commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and well-abstracted code
