Senior/Staff Backend Engineer, Security

Redo is a comprehensive customer experience platform focused on returns management and e-commerce optimization. The company uses AI insights to identify operational and product anomalies, helping reduce return rates while maintaining transparency and alignment with client success. You will design and build shared security infrastructure that enables engineers across all Redo products to build quickly and securely by default. This is a high-autonomy role where you own problems end-to-end: understanding engineer needs, designing solutions, building and operating them in production, and driving adoption across the engineering organization. Key areas the team works in include identity and authentication, authorization and secrets management, encryption and key management, security audit logging, rate limiting, and abuse prevention. Your responsibilities will include: - Design, build, test, deploy and operate production backend services and libraries in TypeScript - Build shared security platforms and patterns that engineering teams adopt - Own services in production with full accountability for monitoring, alerting and reliability - Create guardrails such as shared components, CI checks and secure defaults that help teams ship securely without friction - Partner with engineering teams across the company to raise the security bar - Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership on secure design This role offers significant autonomy and real influence on how Redo builds software. You'll work with a fast-growing startup that is actively scaling and investing in foundational infrastructure. REQUIREMENTS: - BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent professional experience - 6+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily backend - Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills - Demonstrated experience designing and shipping internal libraries, middleware, SDKs or platform APIs that other engineers depend on - End-to-end ownership of production services including monitoring, alerting and reliability - Solid grasp of security fundamentals (authentication, authorization, cryptography basics, common web vulnerabilities) and genuine interest in building secure systems - Ability to take ambiguous problems, design solutions independently and execute without step-by-step direction - Collaborative, low-ego approach with ability to influence engineers outside your direct reporting line PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience building identity, authentication, session, or encryption/key management systems - Experience with AWS IAM and KMS - Experience with e-commerce platforms - Platform or developer-experience work building a "golden path" for other teams - Background at a fast-growing startup building systems from the ground up
