onX is a high-growth tech company building products that help people confidently explore the outdoors. The company operates across four verticals—Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, and Fish—each at different maturity stages, creating varied challenges and impact opportunities. You will own end-to-end UX research across the full product lifecycle, combining generative, evaluative, and quantitative methods to build a holistic understanding of onX customers. You'll independently plan and execute both qualitative and quantitative research, making sound methodological judgments that balance speed with rigor while maintaining credibility. Key responsibilities include: • Independently scope and run research studies (interviews, usability testing, diary studies, surveys, behavioral analysis) to shape product strategy and customer experience. • Build deep cross-functional partnerships with Product, Design, Data Science, Business Intelligence, and Marketing teams. Spot research opportunities collaboratively, not just deliver findings at the end. • Translate research into clear next steps and compelling narratives that inform strategic decisions. • Act as a methodological advisor to non-researchers, helping strengthen their study designs and contributing to shared research standards. • Design and execute quantitative studies using descriptive and inferential statistics to turn survey, behavioral, and CX data into actionable insights. • Integrate qualitative, quantitative, and behavioral data to identify patterns, resolve conflicting signals, and build a fuller picture of customer needs and experiences over time. • Coach non-researchers and explore how AI can make research faster, sharper, and easier to reuse. You'll report to the UX Research Manager and work within a distributed company of 400+ employees across multiple US locations. The role requires quarterly travel to corporate offices or onX Basecamps. REQUIREMENTS: • Eight (8) years of relevant experience, including at least five (5) years in UX, product, or consumer research, preferably in a fast-paced B2C product environment. • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, or PhD in Psychology, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Anthropology, or related field (or equivalent experience). • Portfolio, work samples, or case studies demonstrating ability to independently scope and execute mixed-method research and translate evidence into product and business impact (required with application). • Proven mixed-methods research fluency: ability to independently design, execute, analyze, and integrate qualitative and quantitative studies. • Hands-on experience with foundational and evaluative qualitative methods (interviews, usability testing, diary studies, generative and evaluative approaches). • Hands-on quantitative research experience: survey design and analysis, sampling strategies, data-quality assessment, descriptive and inferential statistics. • Experience with UX measurement and Voice of Customer (VoC) practices. • Ability to manage multiple research efforts simultaneously and adjust to shifting questions, timelines, or business needs. • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to explain findings, implications, and limitations clearly to any audience. • Proactive, strategic mindset with understanding of customers, products, and business priorities. • Strong curiosity about new technologies, including AI. • Permanent US work authorization required. BONUS QUALIFICATIONS (not required): • Experience in democratized or enabled research environments. • Data analysis or visualization tools (R, Python). • Advanced statistics (regression, factor analysis, cluster analysis). • Advanced survey methods (MaxDiff, conjoint, Van Westendorp pricing). • Genuine enthusiasm for the outdoors and how people explore it.
