Flexport is seeking a Senior Trade Advisory Associate, Classification to manage and execute HS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) classification projects for clients and internal stakeholders. This role is central to Flexport's trade advisory services, which help companies navigate global commerce compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing end-to-end HS classification projects with clients and internal teams
- Analyzing and assigning proper HS classifications for imported products using the Harmonized Tariff System
- Auditing classifications for accuracy and compliance
- Maintaining expertise in Section 301 China tariffs and related exclusions
- Staying current on CBP (Customs and Border Protection) regulations and rulings
- Maintaining accurate client databases with product descriptions, SKUs, and classifications
- Documenting and improving classification processes
- Preparing client deliverables including memos and presentations
- Supporting broader trade advisory infrastructure and resolving trade-related questions
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Licensed Customs Broker (required); J.D. or graduate degree preferred
- 2-4 years of experience classifying diverse commodities (apparel, machinery, automotive)
- Proficiency with global Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS)
- Experience reviewing government regulations via CBP Cross, USTR, Customs Info, Lexis Nexis
- Understanding of preferential trade programs (FTAs, GSP)
- Strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Detail-oriented with superior organizational and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google tools
- High computer literacy and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
