Salary: USD 134,400 - 168,000 / annual
Scale's Robotics business is expanding rapidly to support customers building physical AI systems. This is a foundational role at Scale, establishing the robotics lab operations function. You will be a key technical contributor supporting data collection production in the San Francisco Robotics Lab while prototyping new robotic embodiments.
In this hands-on lab role, you will own day-to-day lab operations, including bringing up and maintaining robots and collection hardware, managing physical inventory, coordinating logistics, and providing technical support for data collection operations. You will partner with cross-functional teams to productionize robot maintenance and collection hardware, building uptime and utilization tracking systems to guide leadership prioritization. You'll become the subject matter expert on all deployed robotics platforms and develop technical domain expertise in 2D/3D imaging, annotation, multi-sensor fusion, calibration, GPS/INS navigation, computer vision, and autonomy-adjacent concepts.
You will communicate effectively across internal and external organizations to align on lab priorities and technical roadmaps, operating with high autonomy and ownership.
Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering, with 5+ years of hands-on experience in hardware labs or manufacturing environments. You should have direct experience with robotics, AI, and/or computer vision, plus demonstrated ability to manage risk and operate robots safely. Strong project management, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and cross-organizational communication are essential.
Nice-to-have skills include Python, C++, or Java development; experience building lab networks and data pipelines; large-scale data collection and controlled experiments; logistics experience; and Lean Six Sigma certification.
