Kong is seeking a Senior Technical Writer to join their team in Milan. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality technical documentation for Kong's API and AI platform, serving both developers and end users.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, writing, and editing technical documentation including API docs, developer guides, reference documentation, and release notes for diverse audiences
- Collaborating with product managers, engineers, and other documentation writers to gather information and ensure accuracy
- Conducting research and interacting with subject matter experts to understand product functionality
- Testing documentation content and utilizing CLI tools to validate software features
- Managing and maintaining existing documentation with regular updates, revisions, and deprecation of outdated content
- Implementing documentation processes and standards, including version control with Git
- Reviewing documentation for technical accuracy and adherence to guidelines
- Contributing to project planning and management for documentation deliverables
- Participating in product management discussions to align documentation with product strategy
- Owning documentation strategy for specific product areas, understanding how documentation influences adoption and reduces support burden
- Partnering with product and field teams to identify documentation gaps blocking user success and proposing content investments based on user behavior and adoption data

Qualifications:
- 3+ years of technical writing experience in a software development environment
- Proven expertise in software documentation, including API documentation and developer guides
- Understanding of API testing and experience with relevant tools
- Proficiency with Command Line Interface (CLI)
- Experience or interest in AI
- Solid experience with Git for version control and collaboration
- Demonstrated ability to perform thorough research and synthesize complex technical information
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and accuracy
- Experience with documentation maintenance, document management, and document reviewing processes
- Experience treating documentation areas as products—setting priorities based on user impact and adoption rather than ticket volume
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
