Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical earth observation data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. As a Senior Technical Program Manager, you will drive Planet's largest, most complex cross-functional initiatives focused on the Insights Platform—the systems that enable customers to discover, process, and stream satellite data at scale.
You will act as an accelerant for execution, working closely with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, Design, and Data Science teams to translate product and engineering inputs into realistic, capacity-checked timelines. Your core responsibilities include developing and managing end-to-end program plans, establishing internal processes and schedules, identifying and mitigating risks, and communicating progress and changes to stakeholders across the organization.
Key impact areas: driving product and engineering roadmap execution; creating and managing program schedules with visible milestones and clear definitions of done; managing relationships and scope for external contract developers; continuously surfacing and resolving dependencies and conflicts; facilitating data-driven decision-making; and communicating vertically and horizontally to keep teams aligned. You will balance tactical day-to-day execution with forward-looking improvements to scale operational efficiencies.
You bring 6+ years of software development or program management experience in SaaS, complex data lifecycles, discovery/search engines, or cloud-based content delivery. You have a track record of leading cross-functional projects in matrixed organizations, optimizing delivery cycles, managing system migrations or service consolidations, and coordinating high-stakes technical programs across global timezones. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to explore AI technologies to automate workflows and improve team productivity.
