Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites in history, delivering empirical earth observation data via a cloud-based platform to commercial, environmental, and humanitarian sectors. As a Senior Solutions Architect I on the Pre-Sales team, you will serve the Australia and New Zealand Defence and Intelligence community, designing and architecting complex geospatial solutions that demonstrate the transformative value of Planet's high-frequency earth observation data.
You will sit at the intersection of cutting-edge satellite imagery technology and mission-critical decision-making for defense and intelligence organizations. Your responsibilities include architecting and delivering solution demonstrations that highlight technical capabilities and value; building trusted advisor relationships with customers' technical and management staff; recommending solutions architecture that fits business challenges; crafting technical responses to tenders, RFIs, RFPs, and proposals; partnering with sales colleagues to architect technical strategy across account plans; collaborating with cross-functional teams (Customer Success, Product Management, Business Development) to act as the voice of the customer; presenting to key executive government stakeholders; mentoring team members; and representing customer needs to sales leadership through forecasts, pipeline opportunities, deal reviews, and feedback.
This is a full-time, remote position based in Australia with up to 50% travel required. If located near an office, you are expected to work from that office 3 days per week. The role is eligible for commission.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 6+ years of experience supporting the Australia and/or New Zealand Defence and Intelligence community in a technical capacity
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- Ability to travel, including internationally, up to 50%
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Professional working proficiency in English
- Experience working with GIS and Remote Sensing users within the defence industry
- Experience in IMINT, ISR, and related fields
- Experience with QGIS, SocetGXP, ArcGIS, GDAL, Python, and other common geospatial software packages and programming languages
- Experience with emerging technologies such as AI/ML
- Experience designing and presenting complex systems and solutions that bridge business problems and technology
- Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Excellent problem-solving skills and proactive working style
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively
- Ability to process imagery, manipulate geospatial data, interact with APIs, and build data pipelines
- Ability to lead technical customer engagements
- Ability to run workshops or training sessions with users
- Obtaining and maintaining eligibility for an Australian security clearance is required
