Workstream is a Series B, venture-backed HR, payroll, and hiring platform purpose-built for the hourly workforce. The company serves leading brands including Burger King, KFC, IHOP, and Culvers, and is backed by Founders Fund, BOND, and Coatue. You will join the Professional Services organization as a Senior Software Solutions Engineer, owning the design, development, and delivery of complex technical integrations between Workstream's platform and enterprise client systems. This is a senior individual contributor role with mentorship responsibilities but no direct people management. **Core Responsibilities (50% Integration & Internal Engineering):** Architect and build robust API integrations between Workstream and client HR, payroll, and POS systems. Develop and maintain reusable integration frameworks and shared libraries that accelerate delivery across the team. Own the full software lifecycle from design through production support. Build data migration pipelines and CSV transformation solutions for enterprise onboarding. Develop two-way payroll integrations with complex business logic and error handling. Build and deploy custom internal tools that improve team efficiency and customer operations. Own infrastructure-as-code and deployment pipelines using Terraform and GitHub Actions—you ship to production. Apply AI-native development practices using LLMs and AI tooling to accelerate development cycles and build intelligent solutions. **Technical Leadership & Mentorship (20%):** Review code and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers on the PS team. Establish and document engineering best practices, integration patterns, and internal tooling standards. Champion AI best practices across the team. Collaborate with Product and Engineering to surface recurring customer pain points and influence the platform roadmap. **Customer & Stakeholder Collaboration (20%):** Lead technical discovery sessions with enterprise clients to define integration scope and requirements. Translate complex business and compliance requirements into clear technical specifications. Serve as the senior technical voice in client conversations, communicating architecture decisions confidently to both technical and non-technical audiences. **Custom Solutions & Tooling (10%):** Build custom reporting tools, enterprise-grade career site implementations, and AI-assisted automation for customers. Develop internal tooling and dashboards to improve team efficiency and scale PS delivery. **Requirements:** You have 5+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in building production systems. You write clean, production-grade code and are comfortable owning end-to-end technical delivery. You have strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design. You are proficient in at least one backend language (Python, Java, Go, Node.js, or similar) and comfortable working across the full stack. You have hands-on experience with REST APIs, webhooks, and third-party integrations. You understand relational databases, SQL, and data modeling. You are comfortable with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and modern development workflows. You have experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure). You can communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders. You are self-directed, proactive, and thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment. **Nice to Have:** Proficiency in Python and TypeScript/JavaScript; comfortable owning backend services while being capable across the stack. Prior experience in SaaS implementation, professional services, or a customer-facing engineering role. Exposure to HRIS, payroll, or POS system integrations. Experience building and maintaining shared internal developer tooling or libraries. Familiarity with MCP (Model Context Protocol) or agentic AI frameworks.
