Bitwarden is a trusted identity security leader serving millions of users worldwide. The company provides password management, secrets management, and passwordless/passkey solutions for enterprises, developers, and individuals.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Secrets Manager team, you will build and operate the application stack that enables developers, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to centrally store, manage, and deploy sensitive credentials. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on writing, reviewing, and shipping code across core product concepts including secrets, projects, machine accounts, and access tokens.
The Secrets Manager platform spans a .NET API, a Rust SDK core, and a TypeScript/Angular web client, with SDK bindings in eight additional languages and integrations in Go, C++, Java, PHP, and Python. You will move fluidly between languages and learn new ones as needed.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own features end-to-end from specification through production, including design, implementation across API/client/SDK, testing, deployment, and operational stewardship
- Conduct thorough code reviews, pair on complex problems, and mentor newer engineers in a security-sensitive codebase
- Maintain clean service boundaries and design resilient APIs to enable independent evolution of Secrets Manager
- Tackle the hardest technical problems, contributing to performance, reliability, accessibility, architecture, and maintainability
- Use AI coding assistants effectively in daily work while exercising judgment about their appropriate use
- Own operational health, performance, and reliability telemetry of production services
- Partner cross-functionally with Product, Design, Security, and other engineers to design and validate solutions
Requirements:
- 5+ years building and operating production software with a track record of owning substantial, technically demanding features end-to-end as an individual contributor
- Expertise in languages such as Rust, Go, and Python
- Experience with tooling such as Terraform, Ansible, and GitHub Actions
- Practical experience with containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes)
- Experience writing, consuming, and using SDKs and APIs
- Experience with C#/.NET, TypeScript/Angular, and Entity Framework (Postgres, MySQL, SQLite implementations)
- Familiarity with C++, Java, PHP, and WASM instruction format
- T-shaped engineering mindset with practical experience in automated testing frameworks (unit, integration, end-to-end) and SRE/observability tools (APM, alerting, telemetry dashboards)
- Familiarity with zero-trust and zero-knowledge security architectures, encryption standards, and threat-modeling methodologies
- Practical experience using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Copilot, or similar) in day-to-day engineering
- Highly collaborative and adaptable mindset, excited about rapid, outcome-driven feedback loops
- Enthusiasm for open source, developer advocacy, and building a more secure internet
- Excellent problem-solving skills with strong written communication and data-driven decision-making
