Camunda is hiring a Senior Software Engineer, Quality to build the agentic layer of how the company tests its software. Camunda is an enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, enabling organizations to coordinate AI agents, people, and systems across complex business processes. The company is trusted by over 700 organizations worldwide, including 9 of the top 10 US banks, and is named a Visionary in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies.
In this role, you will treat quality as an engineering discipline and build test infrastructure with real design decisions, real trade-offs, and real ownership. The work is shifting from hand-written test suites toward agents that design, generate, maintain, and triage tests across the lifecycle. You will build both the agents and the infrastructure that makes them dependable, and help shape Camunda's Quality AI strategy.
You'll support product teams that ship features without dedicated QA. Your job is not to become their testing safety net, but to build the tooling and practices that let builders own quality themselves—and to stay close enough to real features to know where that tooling breaks. Camunda also ships AI capabilities in its own product, so the evaluation practice you build for agent-driven testing feeds directly into how the company tests non-deterministic features.
Key responsibilities include: building and operating agents across the testing lifecycle (test design, generation, maintenance, execution, and failure triage); owning the infrastructure that makes agent-driven testing reliable (environments, test data, tool interfaces, guardrails, runtime and cost control); defining how to measure agent output quality so teams can trust results; applying evaluation practice to testing Camunda 8's own AI capabilities; working hands-on with new features as teams build them; and raising the quality capability of teams through patterns, tooling, and enablement.
The company is fully remote and global, in the middle of transforming into an AI-first organization built on its own platform. Camunda uses Agentic AI to automate, orchestrate intelligent processes, and elevate human contribution across every team. The company was named to GP Bullhound's Top 100 Next Unicorn list, is 2025 Great Place to Work certified, and ranked 3rd in Flexa's 2026 Most Flexible Companies.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years as a software engineer. You write production code daily and would be credible on a product team; quality is your domain, not a step down from development.
- Production experience building test infrastructure, developer tooling, or internal platforms that other engineers depend on—designed and owned, not just extended.
- Hands-on work with LLMs or agent frameworks: prompt and context design, tool use, handling non-determinism, and evaluating output quality. This is the differentiator for the role.
- Comfort with distributed systems and CI at scale. Camunda 8 is a process orchestration platform; testing it means reasoning about concurrency, state, and timing.
- Ability to drive adoption in teams that don't report to you. You've built something another team chose to use, and you know what to do when the first version isn't picked up.
- Ability and/or willingness to use Camunda's product.
NICE-TO-HAVES:
- Experience evaluating or benchmarking LLM systems.
- Open-source contribution experience.
- Java, TypeScript, or Python; Kubernetes and Helm.
- Background in developer tooling or platform engineering.
