Flexport is a global commerce platform that moves over $19B of merchandise across 112 countries annually. The Platform, Security & Infrastructure (PSI) team builds and operates the infrastructure and foundations that hundreds of engineers rely on to run Flexport's products reliably around the clock.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Platform SRE team, you will be a proactive infrastructure engineer who identifies risks before they become incidents and works with software engineering and security teams to make infrastructure more resilient, observable, efficient, secure, and easier to operate. This is not a reactive ticket-driven role—you'll drive meaningful pieces of design, implementation, and rollout.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, building, and operating reliable, scalable infrastructure in AWS and other cloud platforms
- Contributing to container orchestration (Kubernetes), Helm charts, and deployment systems (Argo) with guardrails to enable safe deployments
- Improving observability stacks (Openmetrics, Datadog) to provide clear insights into system behavior
- Following and refining Infrastructure-as-Code standards (Terraform) across codebases
- Supporting developers with CI/CD pipelines (Buildkit, Github Actions), build tooling (Gradle, Bazel, npm/pnpm/bun, Go, Cargo), and artifact repositories
- Enhancing incident response tooling for efficient incident handling
- Partnering with product teams on changes impacting the broader engineering organization
Your work will have real leverage: improvements you ship are felt across hundreds of engineers and thousands of deploys daily. You'll help shape infrastructure patterns and operational standards that define how Flexport engineering runs software for years to come.
The team works in-office 3 days per week for collaboration and shipping together. Flexport provides latest hardware/software, including frontier AI models.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of software engineering, site reliability engineering, or infrastructure engineering experience with meaningful time on production system infrastructure
- Solid knowledge of cloud infrastructure with hands-on AWS experience
- Strong Infrastructure-as-Code skills, preferably Terraform, with an eye for safe, reusable patterns
- Solid software engineering skills and ability to build automation and production tooling in general-purpose programming languages
- Experience participating in incident response and blameless post-mortems or COE processes
- Proactive mindset: comfortable with ambiguity, able to identify high-leverage problems independently
- Good judgment around infrastructure: security, IAM, networking, and change management
- Strong communication: ability to write clear design/incident documents and explain operational tradeoffs
- Helpful attitude and drive for impact; commitment to making systems reliable and enabling engineers to operate confidently
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience operating AWS at scale across multiple accounts, regions, and availability zones
- Experience with GitOps and continuous delivery tooling (Argo CD)
- Experience with Identity and Access Management, including OIDC
- Exposure to disaster recovery, business continuity, or resilience testing
- Experience improving cloud cost efficiency and resource utilization
