You will take end-to-end ownership of feature areas spanning different access governance personas, from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring. Working collaboratively with product, design, and engineering teams, you will architect and deliver features that are secure, scalable, and user-friendly. Your technical decisions will directly shape how enterprises manage access governance, and you'll work on genuinely hard technical challenges where your contributions are visible and impactful to real users daily.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, building, and shipping high-quality, production-ready features across the OIG system with focus on correctness, reliability, and performance
- Taking end-to-end ownership of feature areas from design through post-launch monitoring
- Quickly delivering bug fixes and handling customer-reported issues
- Writing clean, well-tested, maintainable code and maintaining high engineering standards
- Partnering with Product Development, QA, and Site Reliability Engineering teams on scoping and deployment
This role requires someone who thinks in systems, leads with craft, and is energized by building enterprise software that millions depend on. You will influence technical decisions across multiple teams and stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with demonstrated ability to independently own and deliver complex features in production
- Proven track record architecting and delivering large-scale, distributed systems in production serving enterprise customers
- Deep expertise in microservices, event-driven architectures, APIs, and data modeling at scale
- Strong proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Go, or equivalent JVM/cloud-native languages used in Okta's backend stack
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority—driving technical alignment across multiple teams and stakeholders
- Experience designing systems meeting enterprise reliability, scalability, and security requirements (multi-tenancy, high availability, audit logging, RBAC/ABAC)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, making complex technical topics accessible to engineers and non-engineers
- B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Identity, access management, or governance (IAM/IGA) product or platform experience
- Familiarity with workflow engines or approval/routing systems (finite state machines, BPM-style systems)
- Enterprise SaaS platform experience serving large, complex customer organizations
- Hands-on cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP, Azure) and modern observability tooling
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Must be on US soil (50 states, District of Columbia, or outlying US areas as defined in FAR 2.101). No citizenship requirement.
