Salary: CAD 144,000 - 176,000 / annual
Relay is a digital banking platform designed to help self-made business owners manage their finances with clarity and confidence. The company is building banking products that serve millions of small businesses, replacing financial guesswork with real visibility into cash flow.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own features across the full development lifecycle—from design and development through testing, deployment, and monitoring—ensuring reliability and performance at scale. You'll manage production systems, optimize infrastructure, and contribute to the availability, scalability, and resilience of the platform. You'll partner with Product, Design, and cross-functional teams to build solutions that meet customer and business needs, and you'll proactively identify areas for technical, process, and product improvement while influencing technical direction and long-term strategy.
You'll mentor junior engineers, sharing expertise and fostering skill development across the team. You'll drive enhancements to code quality, performance optimization, and development process improvements. The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, creative problem-solving, and keeping customer and business impact front-of-mind.
The tech stack includes React, TypeScript, and React Native on the front-end; Node.js, TypeScript, Terraform, and AWS services (DynamoDB, RDS Postgres, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, SES, ElasticSearch, ECS) on the back-end; and tools like Cursor, Claude, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Datadog, Jira, and Metabase.
The interview process consists of five stages: a 45-minute initial call with the Talent team, a 60-minute live coding exercise with two engineers, a 60-minute call with two Engineering Managers, a take-home system design challenge followed by a 60-minute review, and a 45-minute in-person interview with a Leadership team member.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of full-stack software engineering experience
- Led development of significant components or features with minimal oversight
- Mentor junior engineers and foster team growth
- Proactively drive enhancements to code quality, performance, and development processes

- Experience in startups or high-growth tech companies
- JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js experience
