Sportradar is the world's leading sports technology company, creating immersive experiences at the intersection of sports, betting, and entertainment. Within the iGaming (Playradar) division, you will design, implement, and evolve backend services and game logic that support high-quality, reliable, and scalable gaming products across Casino Games, Virtual Sports, Live Betting Products, and 24/7 Experiences.
You will translate product and game design requirements into robust technical solutions, providing constructive feedback and asking the right questions to improve outcomes. You'll build clean, maintainable, and well-tested software that minimizes defects, supports efficient operations, and enables future product growth. You will take ownership of technical decisions within your area, actively suggest improvements, and contribute to planning, architecture discussions, and retrospectives.
You'll collaborate closely with experienced engineers, designers, and product leaders based in the Vienna or Ljubljana office, contributing to key technical and creative decisions and helping build scalable backend systems that power engaging game experiences across the growing portfolio.
The company operates on a fully on-site model with team members working in the office five days a week, though certain exemptions may apply depending on location. REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong professional experience in software engineering with focus on backend development and production-grade systems
- Strong experience with Java and hands-on experience with Spring Boot, including REST APIs, configuration, and security fundamentals
- Good understanding of object-oriented design, clean code, and software design principles such as SOLID
- Experience designing, building, and maintaining backend services in production environments
- Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB), including schema design, efficient queries, and indexing
- Experience implementing domain logic, business rules, or game-related mechanics in scalable systems
- Familiarity with Git and modern development workflows, including code reviews and pull requests
- Knowledge of messaging and event-driven systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
- Practical experience using Docker, including building images and working with containerized services
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Experience writing unit, integration, and automated tests
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of features from technical design through production
- Strong problem-solving mindset, attention to detail, and ability to balance quality, speed, and maintainability
- Ability to communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Willingness to mentor less experienced engineers and support strong engineering practices
- Comfortable working in an Agile/Scrum environment
- Proactive attitude and continuous learning mindset
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience in game development, casino games, virtual sports, betting products, or real-time/high-availability entertainment systems
- Exposure to Kubernetes, including deployment concepts, Helm, scaling, and troubleshooting
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Experience making architectural and technical decisions for scalable, maintainable systems
- Ability to design systems supporting performance, reliability, observability, and long-term maintainability
- Leading by example in code quality, reviews, testing discipline, and engineering best practices
- Supporting the team with technical guidance, mentoring, and pragmatic decision-making
- Practical experience using AI tools to support software development
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code and ensure correctness, security, and maintainability
