Life360 is a consumer mobile platform serving 102.4 million monthly active users across 180+ countries, offering location sharing, family coordination, safe driver reports, crash detection with emergency dispatch, and connected device tracking (Tile, Pet GPS). The company is building an AI-native engineering culture where AI is a first-class collaborator in design, development, testing, and operations.
This Senior Software Engineer II role sits on the Verticals team, which is expanding Life360 beyond the core family circle into new member segments. The initial focus is Aging in Place—helping aging parents stay safely independent while giving families peace of mind. Over time, the role may expand to support Things (connected trackers) or Pets as priorities shift.
You will design and build end-to-end features across the full stack: backend microservices (Spring Boot, Java, Kafka, AWS) and native mobile clients (iOS/Swift, Android/Kotlin). You'll work with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) as a genuine development partner—not just autocomplete—using agentic workflows, prompt engineering, and context window management to multiply your output and ship faster without sacrificing quality.
Key responsibilities include: shipping end-to-end features from backend APIs through mobile surfaces; defining and codifying AI-native engineering practices and playbooks for the broader Verticals org; collaborating with product and design to turn user problems into scalable solutions; contributing to architectural decisions and code reviews; participating in on-call rotation; mentoring team members on AI-native workflows; and adapting patterns built for Aging in Place to future verticals.
In your first year, success means shipping end-to-end features for the Aging in Place segment and establishing at least one AI-native workflow the broader team adopts. You'll take full ownership from first line of code through production, on-call, and member impact. The role emphasizes empathy for the humans behind the product—aging parents seeking independence and families supporting them from afar.
Life360 is a remote-first company with 500+ employees. The team is product-minded and AI-native by design, treating AI as integral to how the team works, not as a tool layered on top.
**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of experience building and operating high-quality, consumer-scale services
- 1+ years of hands-on experience prompting, evaluating, and building with LLMs
- Full-stack proficiency spanning backend services and mobile client development (iOS and/or Android), with versatility to work across the whole stack
- Deep experience with agentic workflows, prompt engineering, context window management, and MCP/function calling
- Track record of using AI tooling to multiply your own output—as a genuine development partner, not just autocomplete
- Strong sense of ownership; you follow through from "it works on my machine" to "it works for the member, in production, at scale"
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with product, design, and platform engineers
- Genuine excitement for defining what AI-Native means; you want to write the playbook, not wait for one
- Empathy for the humans behind the product
- Bachelor's Degree in a Technical field, or equivalent experience
