Scan.com is building America's national imaging network, connecting patients, providers, and payers to faster, better-value diagnostic imaging. The company has raised over $200M in funding, reached profitability, and is growing 100% year-on-year. Thousands of patients move through the platform daily.
The Fulfillment product is the core engine of Scan.com, managing the entire patient lifecycle from referral receipt to radiology reports. An internal portal handles scheduling, patient preauthorization, medical forms, notifications, image and report routing, invoicing, and claims—connected to hundreds of imaging centers and health systems.
As a Senior Software Engineer, Fulfillment, you will architect and build systems that make these workflows robust, automated, and efficient. This role requires genuine passion for scaling operational workflows, collaboration with internal operations teams, and deep understanding of high-throughput workflows at scale. You'll help hundreds of patients get imaging done every day with minimal friction.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and implement patient intake workflows (medical forms, scheduling, reminders)
- Architect monitoring systems for patient journeys at scale for operations leadership
- Develop dashboards for scheduling operations, legal operations, and patient services teams
- Own the automation layer for operations: automatic referral ingestion, task assignment, AI voice reminders, and issue-surfacing dashboards
As a scale-up, the role will develop over time with expanding scope and impact.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficiency in backend development with modern web stacks, particularly Ruby on Rails and Postgres
- Experience building reliable, scalable services with architectural rigor
- Familiarity with RESTful API integration patterns, schema versioning, backward compatibility, and API contract management
- Strong operational instincts: instrumentation, failure-mode thinking, on-call escalation awareness
- Experience shipping complex internal operations dashboards and creating delightful experiences
- Healthcare experience is a plus but not required; engineering depth is prioritized over industry background
