Neara uses advanced machine learning to create physics-enabled digital twins of electricity grids across four continents, helping utilities understand infrastructure challenges and build resilient energy systems. By simulating extreme weather and structural stress at network-wide scale, the company empowers utilities to pinpoint risks, optimize investments, and forecast grid behavior.
As a Senior Software Engineer in the Digitisation group, you will make digital twin building self-service. Digital twins are constructed from LiDAR, imagery, and other data sources using machine learning and algorithms, then refined by global delivery teams. You'll build the platform bridging those algorithms and the people who use them.
Your platform will enable users to: run builds independently with clear error visibility and self-service debugging; fix algorithmic errors through collaborative model refinement without conflicts; and track machine time, human correction time, processing errors, and output quality at every stage with early throughput and quality forecasts.
The tech stack spans Dart-based client applications, high-performance C++/Rust computation and simulation engines, and Java backend services for large-scale data and APIs. You'll work across frontend, backend, and systems depending on what the work demands.
You will own: the interface between algorithms and end users, surfacing problems clearly enough for non-developers to act on them and feeding human corrections back into ML systems; frameworks that standardize and scale work across projects and regions; tooling performance for global delivery teams working in the platform daily; and rollout strategy for internal teams across multiple time zones.
The role emphasizes product sense, user empathy (especially for expert users), and the ability to deliver ambitious work in incremental steps. You'll get to know your users, gather requirements, and stay focused on outcomes.
Nice-to-have experience includes human-in-the-loop systems (review workflows, task routing, consensus at scale), owning domain-specific languages or low-code surfaces, supporting distributed operational teams across time zones, building dense stateful tools for expert users (CAD, GIS, IDEs, data visualization), and exposure to geospatial systems, LiDAR, utilities, energy, or physics-based platforms.
The company offers competitive salary, meaningful ESOP, fully flexible working arrangements with a well-stocked office in Redfern, and regular office events. Neara values diversity and equal employment opportunities.
