Honeydew is building a digital-first dermatology platform to provide global access to licensed skin specialists, FDA-approved treatments, and ongoing support. The company combines telehealth, AI, and science-backed care to serve hundreds of millions of people with chronic skin conditions. As a Senior Software Engineer - Data, you will lead the Platform team's data infrastructure work, ensuring data security, reliability, and accuracy across the organization. You'll own projects that harden the data layer, enable self-service data access for feature teams, and strengthen patient data protection in a HIPAA-regulated environment. In your first six months, you will: - Build a healthy data layer by establishing monitoring for query performance, data quality, and capacity; resolve top issues; document schema change and data quality processes for feature teams; eliminate production incidents from data layer changes. - Strengthen data security by delivering at least two governance improvements, such as audit log coverage for PHI access, tighter access controls, or automated sensitive data detection in non-production environments. Your core responsibilities include: - Design and migrate: Partner with the engineering manager to identify projects, design data models, and execute migrations using agentic engineering methods. - Build reliable data access: Develop and maintain data pipelines and reporting access so feature teams and stakeholders get trustworthy data without filing requests. - Protect and enable: Review engineers' code (especially data-related changes), help teams with data requests, and conduct security reviews. You'll work with a tech stack including TypeScript, Python, SQL, PostgreSQL (RDS), DynamoDB, AWS Lambda, GraphQL, Databricks, dbt, and Amplitude. The team uses modern practices including infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CloudFormation), CI/CD (Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions), and AI-assisted engineering tools. REQUIREMENTS: - Data engineering and architecture: Production experience designing relational data models, planning and executing data migrations, and building reliable data pipelines. Must apply current best practices in schema design, query performance, and data quality. Experience with data analytics or warehousing required. - Object-oriented programming language: Production experience building backend services and APIs. - Data security and governance: Production experience securing sensitive data, including access control, encryption, audit logging, and handling of PHI or PII. Ideally in a regulated environment. Nice-to-haves: - Healthcare or other heavily regulated domain experience. - Experience building and using custom agents. - Experience with TypeScript, AWS, serverless functions, PostgreSQL, or Databricks.
