Dave is a financial services platform on a mission to provide affordable, transparent access to liquidity for underserved Americans. The company offers products like ExtraCash (providing up to $500 within minutes) and is launching new offerings including Buy Now Pay Later in 2026.
You'll join the Risk team, which is critical to Dave's platform. This team builds real-time analytics systems to assess user risk and behavior, validates user identities and actions, and operates event-driven, asynchronous decisioning systems that must be fast, resilient, and auditable at scale.
In this role, you will:
- Design and build backend services in TypeScript for real-time and asynchronous risk decisioning
- Build and maintain event-driven workflows using queues, pub/sub, and cloud task infrastructure
- Design and implement state machines to model multi-step decisioning and verification flows
- Work closely with product, operations, and infrastructure teams to build and scale backend services
- Participate in code reviews and team functions
- Own end-to-end delivery of small to medium-sized projects from design through production
- Provide technical leadership and guide the team's technical direction
- Mentor and pair with other engineers regularly

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years of software development experience
- Hands-on experience with event-driven architecture (message queues, pub/sub, or similar)
- Experience with cloud task/job scheduling systems (Cloud Tasks, SQS, Celery, or equivalent)
- Experience designing or implementing state machines for multi-step workflows
- Strong computer science fundamentals and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to work as part of a team
- Programming experience in TypeScript/JavaScript (Node.js) or Java, Python, C/C++, Go
- Experience with MySQL and Google Cloud Platform
- Effective communication skills, positive attitude, ability to give and receive constructive feedback
- Ability to discuss and explain system architecture and design
- Comfortable using AI tools as part of engineering workflow with sound judgment about when to rely on them
