Florence Healthcare is seeking a Senior Software Architect to define and evolve scalable, secure, and resilient technical solutions across their multi-tenant, multi-region clinical research platform. This is a hands-on technical leadership role focused on translating complex business and product requirements into practical, reusable architectures.
You will collaborate across Engineering, Product, Platform, Data, AI, and customer-facing teams to ensure solutions meet immediate business needs while supporting long-term product and technology strategy. You will influence technical direction across teams, guide critical architecture decisions, and help Florence build a modern, scalable, and increasingly AI-enabled platform.
Key responsibilities include:
**Solution & Platform Architecture:** Design end-to-end solutions across Florence products, platform services, integrations, data systems, and AI capabilities. Define reusable patterns for APIs, event-driven systems, and cloud-native services. Evaluate trade-offs across scalability, performance, security, reliability, cost, and time to market. Simplify systems, reduce technical debt, and improve maintainability. Partner with engineering teams on design and implementation of complex solutions. Promote consistent engineering standards, reusable components, and clear architectural documentation.
**Data, Integrations & AI:** Design architectures that connect applications, enterprise systems, data platforms, and third-party services. Partner with Data Engineering to support data integration, master data management, data quality, governance, and real-time data flows. Identify opportunities to incorporate AI, generative AI, and intelligent automation into products and enterprise workflows. Evaluate AI and agentic solutions based on business value, security, reliability, performance, and operational cost. Establish appropriate patterns for data access, API integration, workflow orchestration, observability, and secure AI adoption.
**Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence:** Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align architecture with business and product priorities. Lead architecture and design reviews for high-impact initiatives and cross-product dependencies. Develop reference architectures, technical specifications, and architecture decision records. Mentor engineers and technical leaders, influencing decisions through technical depth and sound judgment rather than formal management authority. Promote pragmatic architecture practices that improve engineering velocity without compromising quality, security, or reliability.
Success looks like establishing scalable, reusable architecture patterns across Florence's products and platform; improving alignment across Engineering, Product, Platform, Data, and AI initiatives; reducing architectural complexity and duplicated capabilities; accelerating delivery of complex enterprise solutions; improving system reliability, security, performance, and maintainability; and enabling the adoption of AI and intelligent automation where they deliver measurable business value.
Florence Healthcare is a clinical research platform used by over 65,000 research teams in 90 countries. The company has been named a Deloitte Fast 50 business, G2 Category Leader, and Inc. 5000 company five years in a row.
**Requirements:**
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, system design, and software architecture
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex, enterprise-scale software solutions
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices, APIs, event-driven architecture, and cloud-native technologies
- Experience with enterprise integrations, platform architecture, and data-intensive applications
- Strong cloud architecture experience, preferably with AWS
- Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS architectures, including tenant isolation and multi-region deployment
- Familiarity with modern data platforms, data governance, and real-time data processing
- Working knowledge of generative AI, LLMs, RAG, AI agents, or AI-enabled application architectures
- Strong understanding of security, identity and access management, privacy, scalability, reliability, and observability
- Ability to translate business needs into practical technical designs and guide solutions from architecture through implementation
- Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills
**Nice-to-have:**
- Experience in enterprise SaaS, healthcare, life sciences, or other regulated industries
- Experience with AWS services, event streaming technologies such as Kafka, and enterprise integration patterns
- Experience designing reusable platform capabilities across multiple products and customer environments
- Experience implementing production AI solutions and intelligent workflow automation
