You will serve as Senior Site Safety Manager for a new 300,000 SF Seattle manufacturing facility, reporting to the Safety Director. This is a hands-on, senior-level role establishing occupational safety leadership from ground-up during facility build-out and operations ramp.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety Leadership & On-Site Authority: Establish on-site safety presence and set compliance expectations across all operations. Make autonomous decisions on high-risk issues, including authority to stop unsafe work and enforce non-negotiable safety standards. Conduct daily facility inspections (machinery, propellant labs, storage, electrical, exits) and document hazards. Monitor OSHA compliance in real-time and maintain audit-ready documentation.
Training Program Development: Design and deliver competency-based safety training curriculum before operations begin. Develop mandatory trainings covering LOTO, machinery-specific hazard recognition, propellant handling, emergency response, and site orientation. Implement operator certification programs verifying demonstrated competency before equipment use. Establish refresher schedules and train-the-trainer programs for operations leads.
PPE Protocol Development & Enforcement: Conduct hazard assessments to determine PPE requirements by zone and task. Design site-wide PPE protocols ensuring ANSI and aerospace standards compliance. Enforce PPE compliance daily and audit stock, fit-testing records, and compliance monthly.
OSHA Compliance & Regulatory Stewardship: Maintain expert knowledge of OSHA 1910 standards. Audit facility monthly against OSHA requirements and drive remediation. Maintain incident documentation, first aid records, and regulatory correspondence. Prepare audit readiness files and conduct quarterly mock OSHA inspections. Track regulatory changes and implement proactively.
Facility Build-Out & New Equipment Safety: Establish site-specific safety plan during facility erection. Conduct pre-installation safety reviews for all new machinery. Oversee equipment installation from safety perspective and conduct pre-operations audit with sign-off gate before machinery activation. Develop facility-specific hazard maps and coordinate contractor/vendor safety compliance.
Incident Response & Analytics: Establish near-miss and incident tracking system. Respond to incidents within 24 hours with preliminary investigation. Lead root cause analysis and develop remedial training or system improvements. Prepare monthly incident summaries with trend analysis.
