Salary: USD 137,000 - 160,000 / annual
Chainguard is a venture-backed software supply-chain security company delivering hardened, secure, production-ready builds of open source software. The company serves Fortune 500 enterprises and global leaders including OpenAI, Snap, Snowflake, and others, backed by top-tier investors including Sequoia Capital, Kleiner Perkins, and Lightspeed Venture Partners.
You will engineer and secure Chainguard's multi-cloud environment—the same infrastructure that powers the product. As a cloud-native, AI-focused company, the cloud platform directly shapes what the product can build and how fast it can be built safely. You'll report to the Sr Director of Cyber Resiliency and work embedded in project pods alongside product engineering partners.
Key responsibilities include:
- Engineer and maintain cloud environments built for security, resilience, and performance optimization
- Partner hands-on with internal engineering teams to embed security into developer-facing architecture and tooling
- Work closely with IAM counterparts to design and enforce secure identity and access strategies across all cloud environments
- Harden cloud platforms against emerging threats while maintaining resilience and high availability
- Lead cloud-centric disaster recovery exercises
- Build automation, pipelines, and guardrails using Terraform/IaC and Kubernetes with a DevOps mindset
- Secure infrastructure behind AI-driven pipelines and agentic workflows as they become growing consumers of the software supply chain
- Act as a trusted advisor translating requirements into secure, practical infrastructure that other teams will rapidly adopt
- Adapt architecture and priorities as the company scales
- Assist during relevant incident response investigations
This is a late-stage startup where priorities, tooling, and scope can shift quickly. You'll need strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively across teams.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong, hands-on GCP or AWS engineering experience (required)
- Experience with Azure (a plus)
- Solid DevOps background: comfortable with Terraform/IaC, Kubernetes (GKE), and CI/CD pipelines
- Track record of designing systems that are secure, resilient, and built to accelerate engineering velocity
- Comfort with ambiguity and rapid change; prior experience at a fast-moving or late-stage startup is a strong plus
