Charge Robotics is a Series A startup building robots that construct solar farms. The company addresses a critical labor bottleneck in solar installation—demand for new solar projects is booming (1 in 5 solar installations in the US occurred last year), but construction companies lack sufficient labor resources. Charge is MIT-founded and backed by top investors including Founders Fund, Energy Impact Partners, Lux Capital, and Y Combinator (S21). As a Senior Robotics Software Engineer, you will work full-stack on software for the company's robotic factory installation system, playing a direct role in deploying gigawatts of clean power generation. Your responsibilities include: - Architecting, building, documenting, testing, and iterating on software for robotic factory installation systems - Developing perception, motion planning, and controls software enabling robots to operate reliably in unstructured field conditions - Contributing to low-level software powering robotic systems in factories and delivery vehicles, with emphasis on correctness and safety - Controlling industrial automation hardware including linear actuators, motors, and hydraulic systems You will work in a fast-paced startup environment with opportunities for significant learning and growth. The role includes approximately 10% travel to field locations (solar construction sites) to work directly with the product in its deployment environment. You'll be based at the San Leandro HQ and expected to work 4-5 days per week on-site. REQUIREMENTS: - Experienced Python developer comfortable with at least one lower-level language (C++) - Experience writing real-time, embedded, or robotics software - Ability to instrument and develop highly performant software as a team member, including writing clean code, documenting it, testing it, and using version control and CI - Prior experience in a fast-paced startup environment - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Based in or able to relocate to the SF Bay Area - Able to work 4-5 days per week from San Leandro HQ - Open to ~10% travel to field locations NICE-TO-HAVE: - Experience with industrial robot arms, motion planning, or automation systems - 4-year degree in computer science, robotics, or related field - Personal motivation around climate change mitigation
