Charge Robotics is a Series A startup building robots that construct solar farms. The company addresses a critical labor bottleneck in solar construction—demand for new solar projects is surging (1 in 5 solar installations in the US occurred last year), but traditional construction companies lack sufficient labor resources. Charge's robots directly tackle this problem to accelerate the renewable energy transition. The company is MIT-founded and backed by top investors including Founders Fund, Energy Impact Partners, Lux Capital, and Y Combinator (S21).
As Senior Robotics Integration Engineer, you will work full-stack on hardware and software integration, playing a direct role in deploying gigawatts of clean power generation. Your responsibilities include:
- Architecting, building, documenting, testing, and iterating on mechatronic systems for the robotic factory
- Integrating and commissioning sensors, actuators, control systems, and industrial automation hardware (actuators, motors, hydraulic systems, robot arms)
- Optimizing the interface between mechanical, electrical, and software components to ensure reliability and safety in factory and field deployments
You will work in a fast-paced startup environment with significant opportunities for learning and growth. The role includes approximately 10% travel to field deployments (solar construction sites) to work directly with the product in its deployment environment. You must be based in or willing to relocate to the SF Bay Area and able to work 4–5 days per week from the San Leandro HQ.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong experience in mechatronics, robotics integration, or automation engineering with hands-on skills in both hardware and software
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred) and comfort reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
- Demonstrated ability to instrument, test, and validate complex electromechanical systems as a team member, including writing documentation, using version control, and performing systematic debugging
- Prior experience in a fast-paced startup environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to work with and occasionally safely climb into giant robots
- Commitment to climate impact and enthusiasm for seeing work deployed on actual solar farms
NICE-TO-HAVE:
- Experience with industrial robot arms, motion planning, PLCs, or automated manufacturing systems
- 4-year degree in mechatronics, robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field
