The Legal, Risk & Compliance (LRC) team safeguards Airwallex's operations and ensures compliance across the global financial landscape. The Global Regulatory Compliance Team operates as the second line of defence, providing advisory and oversight to enable growth while managing legal, compliance, and financial risks.
As Manager, Regulatory Compliance for Korea, you will lead the regulatory engagement strategy for Airwallex's Korea business and manage payment services and money remittance compliance programs. You will maintain licensing responsibilities, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure full regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include:
- Support the Group's expansion by managing regulatory compliance components of licence authorisation processes
- Act as key stakeholder for licence applications, business plan updates, and regulator communications
- Maintain regulatory compliance and integrity risk reporting obligations in Korea
- Advise the business on regulatory change initiatives and new law compliance
- Develop policies and processes for regulatory risk obligations within the first-line business
- Manage regulatory compliance risk within the Airwallex Risk Management Framework
- Advise on conduct risk and ethics matters related to financial services licences
- Deliver the Compliance Monitoring Program with targeted and thematic reviews
- Deliver Group Compliance Training and conduct ad-hoc training as needed
- Lead proactive special projects to unlock business or operational issues
You will report to the Director, Regulatory Compliance, Asia (based in Singapore) and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance and enable business growth.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree with minimum 6 years of compliance experience in a regulated financial institution, FinTech, legal/consulting firm, or combination thereof
- Familiarity with financial regulatory laws, rules, regulations, and industry best practices in Korea and across the Asia region
- Data proficiency and ability to leverage data for strategic decision-making
- Ability to operate strategically and think creatively to solve complex regulatory compliance challenges
- Superior communication skills to explain complex topics to regulators, executive leadership, and front-line staff
- Experience developing and/or maintaining a compliance program within a financial institution, preferably in payments
- Exposure to licensing processes, regulatory expansion, and RegTech or technology-driven compliance solutions
- Understanding of financial products and related conduct risk, ethics, and controls
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrable experience dealing with the FSC (Financial Services Commission) and FSS (Financial Supervisory Service) in Korea and other financial services regulators across Asia
