Planet is seeking a Senior Program Manager for Professional Services focused on Defense and Intelligence customers. This role leads a team of Solutions Architects, Deployment Strategists, and Software Engineers delivering geospatial and remote sensing solutions to global defense and intelligence agencies.
You will manage the strategy and execution of multiple projects and workstreams on 6-12 month horizons, providing technical oversight and ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery. Key responsibilities include guiding customer adoption of Planet's platform, leading technical delivery aligned with business requirements, championing development processes (agile, TDD, source control), and writing technical specifications to reduce complexity and identify risks.
You'll structure the team for success, plan headcount and recruiting needs, foster career growth, hold team members accountable, and attract diverse talent. This requires deep expertise in geospatial technologies, remote sensing, and defense/intelligence mission requirements, combined with proven ability to influence customers at all organizational levels and manage complex programs for government agencies where technical precision and timely delivery are critical.
The role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week in Planet's Berlin, Haarlem, or London office. You'll work independently and collaboratively within a global team, translating company goals into team plans and communicating results across Engineering, Product, and Design functions.
Required: 6+ years relevant experience, 4+ years supervisory/leadership experience, degree in GIS/Computer Science/Remote Sensing/Geography (advanced degree preferred), excellent problem-solving and communication skills, experience influencing at all organizational levels, and direct experience delivering geospatial solutions for defense/intelligence missions.
