Umba is a pan-African digital bank operating in Kenya and Nigeria, building financial technology products for individuals and SMEs across credit, savings, payments, and foreign exchange. The Senior Product Manager will own product strategy and execution end-to-end—from discovery and specification through delivery, launch, and metric tracking.
This role operates in an AI-native environment where the team uses Claude Code, Claude Design, and similar tools to spec, prototype, and ship at 10x velocity. The PM is expected to write product and technical specifications that AI agents can execute, drive delivery end-to-end, ship small PRs directly when faster than handing off, coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, and own outcomes.
Key responsibilities span strategy and execution: own the roadmap across credit, lending, savings, deposits, payments, and foreign exchange; run customer discovery directly with borrowers, savers, SMEs, and freelancers; size opportunities and validate hypotheses against production data; make prioritization calls across product lines; write tight, unambiguous, testable specs for engineers and AI agents; prototype in Claude Design; code and ship small PRs with Claude Code; drive delivery end-to-end in Linear; run engineering cadence (standups, sprints, unblocking); coordinate across leadership, engineering, data, credit, operations, risk, compliance, and marketing; align scope and trade-offs; tie every initiative to revenue, growth, or risk metrics; review AI-generated work for correctness and business fit; and own launch comms and enablement.
Required: 5+ years product management experience, direct shipping of consumer or SME products in fintech/banking/lending/payments, track record of owning metrics (revenue, users, default rate, deposit growth), strong stakeholder coordination, excellent written communication, SQL fluency or willingness to learn immediately, demonstrated proficiency with AI tools (Claude Code, Claude Design, Codex) in real shipped work, comfort reading and writing code to ship small PRs, high agency, and ability to read financial regulatory guidance and translate to product requirements.
Highly preferred: credit product experience (origination, scoring, collections), deposit products (rate strategy, treasury, funding), foreign exchange or cross-border payments, experience with AI coding agents in production, prior emerging markets work (Africa, SEA, LATAM fintech), founder or 0-to-1 experience, and trade finance knowledge.
