Lumilens is building critical photonics infrastructure for AI supercomputing, including chip-to-chip optical interconnects and scalable photonic engines. The company is Series B-funded and led by veterans from transformative technology companies.
As Senior Process Engineer, you will own the development and oversight of manufacturing processes for the optical transceiver roadmap. You will work closely with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and internal cross-functional teams to meet product objectives while instilling a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define, develop, prove, and deploy manufacturing processes for new products; implement continuous improvement projects to achieve yield, throughput, efficiency, scrap, and quality targets
- Own manufacturing process documentation; review and approve processes implemented on the production line
- Ensure end-to-end manufacturing ownership with proper change control and QMS compliance
- Collaborate with design engineering and contract manufacturing teams to execute, improve, and sustain processes; ensure DFM guidelines are met
- Partner with quality teams on qualification testing planning and execution
- Prepare process reports analyzing trends and data
- Automate manufacturing processes where possible
- Engage in equipment selection, develop statements of purpose, and work with suppliers on algorithm, hardware, and software development from buy-off to manufacturing release
This role requires deep expertise in optical transceiver and laser manufacturing at high volume, with hands-on experience in assembly processes such as wire bonding, die bonding, active optical alignment, testing, and burn-in. You will drive innovation in manufacturing for products powering AI data centers.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in high-volume optical transceiver and/or laser manufacturing
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
- In-depth technical knowledge and hands-on experience in design, development, selection, and implementation of manufacturing processes, equipment, materials, and methodologies for optical assemblies
- Expert-level knowledge in one or more optical transceiver assembly processes (wire bond, die bond, active optical alignment, product testing, burn-in, etc.)
- Expertise in data analysis, statistical process control (SPC), and report generation
- In-depth understanding of quality management systems and quality standards
- Data query and analysis skills using statistical tools and techniques
- Expertise in optics failure analysis (FA) processes and tools
- Ability to work effectively in geographically diverse cross-functional teams
- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written), including in-person and virtual presentation abilities
- Willingness to travel internationally
