Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations Cloud, a platform enabling organizations to harness IoT data for actionable insights across physical operations including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing. You will own the platform foundation that enables the entire growth product engineering organization to move faster. As Samsara pushes toward AI-assisted and agentic development, velocity is increasingly bottlenecked not by feature work but by foundational gaps in infrastructure, security, and tooling. This is a hands-on, high-leverage role where you will design and operate critical systems that make AI-generated code safe to ship at scale. Key responsibilities include: - Design and operate a hardened CI/CD pipeline with automated testing, security scanning, performance regression guards, and progressive delivery with automated rollback - Build fast, safe inner-loop developer experience with ephemeral per-PR environments and isolated databases seeded from realistic data - Establish centralized logging, monitoring, and alerting across AWS infrastructure with automatic rollback on bad deployments - Lead security engineering: remediate vulnerabilities, establish secure-by-default patterns, automate code scanning, secrets management, and access control - Migrate hand-built AWS resources to Infrastructure as Code, separate production and pre-production accounts, and implement tested backup and disaster recovery with clear RTO/RPO targets - Build paved-path, self-service tooling for standardized blue/green, canary, and feature-flag releases - Build and operate AI agents for SRE work: automated alert triage, incident investigation, and safe self-healing remediation - Contribute to backend development for customer-facing product features alongside platform work - Champion and embed Samsara's cultural principles as the organization scales The core principle: when humans write PRs, humans are the safety net; when AI agents write PRs, the pipeline is the safety net. Raising that bar is the prerequisite for scaling AI-assisted development safely. Tech stack: Python, JavaScript (Vue), AWS, GitHub Actions workflow API, with growing serverless and container-based services. REQUIREMENTS: Minimum: - 6+ years of professional software, infrastructure, DevOps, platform, or site reliability engineering experience - Hands-on AWS production experience (IAM, Lambda, networking, multi-account organizations) with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation) - Designed and operated CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, buildkite) with automated testing, static analysis, coverage enforcement, deployment gates, and safe release patterns (blue/green, canary, feature flags, reliable rollbacks) - Strong Python development experience across services, tooling, and automation; working familiarity with JavaScript-based stacks; experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker with ECS, EKS, or Kubernetes) - Cloud security posture management (CSPM) or tools like Wiz, semgrep, synk - Experience building observability into distributed systems: centralized logging, metrics, tracing, alerting (Sentry, Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana) - Track record of designing, building, and operating production infrastructure end-to-end with measurable gains in reliability, security, or developer velocity - Daily use of AI-powered development tools (Claude, Cursor, Codex, Copilot) - Experience with product and feature development: building and shipping customer-facing features, not just internal platform work Ideal to have: - Experience building guardrails for AI/agent-generated code safety: mutation testing, coverage enforcement, ephemeral preview environments, automated rollback - Developer experience or platform engineering background with track record of paved-path tooling adoption - Cloud cost management, performance regression detection, capacity planning, disaster recovery with measured RTO/RPO - Exposure to localization pipelines and GTM/data tooling (Salesforce, Contentful, Hightouch, Databricks) - Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) experience - Ownership of operational review processes Note: This role is open to US candidates except those in SF Bay Area Metro, NYC Metro, or Washington DC Metro.
