LiveKit is building infrastructure for voice-driven AI computing, powering applications for OpenAI, xAI, Salesforce, Spotify, and thousands of others. The company is growing rapidly across the US and internationally, and Finance is taking over payroll operations.
As Senior Payroll Specialist, you will own end-to-end US and international payroll operations for a distributed, fast-growing team. This is a build-from-scratch role—you'll establish payroll processes, calendars, and controls rather than maintaining an existing system.
Key responsibilities include:
- Running US and international payroll end-to-end, from input collection through final reconciliation
- Managing all payroll tax filings (domestic and international) and ensuring compliance
- Overseeing PEO and EOR relationships, understanding responsibility boundaries
- Reconciling payroll to the general ledger each cycle and supporting month-end close
- Building and maintaining payroll documentation and processes as the function transitions into Finance
- Partnering with People/Talent and accounting on hiring, changes, terminations, and reconciliation
- Supporting equity administration in Carta and board reporting
- Serving as the internal payroll expert and point of contact for auditor requests
You thrive on detail, accuracy, and problem-solving. You're obsessive about reconciling numbers to the penny, known as the go-to person for tough problems, and comfortable working independently as a subject-matter expert while flagging tax, legal, and compliance risks proactively.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Hands-on experience running both US and international payroll, including Canada and/or EU
- Direct experience managing payroll tax filings (not outsourcing to providers)
- Multi-state US payroll experience for remote, distributed teams
- Strong experience with PEO and/or EOR structures
- Familiarity with startup platforms (Rippling, Deel, Remote, or similar)
- Ability to work independently, juggling multiple moving pieces and flagging compliance risks
NICE TO HAVE:
- CPP, FPC, or similar payroll certification
- Experience moving payroll in-house, switching providers, or migrating HRIS
- Equity administration experience in Carta
- Background at fast-growing companies with distributed, international teams
- Track record of catching payroll errors independently
