Lendable is a UK-based fintech unicorn (800+ people, profitable since 2017, backed by Balderton Capital and Goldman Sachs) rebuilding consumer finance products—loans, credit cards, and car finance—with modern technology. The company operates in the UK and US markets, delivering credit to customers in minutes instead of days.
You will own the mobile quality engineering strategy for Zable, Lendable's React Native mobile app (iOS and Android). This is an automation-first, code-heavy role focused on raising release cadence without introducing regressions.
Key responsibilities:
**Test Strategy & Architecture:** Define and evolve a pragmatic test pyramid for React Native, making deliberate trade-offs between E2E, Jest, React Testing Library, and component tests. Set the bar for "ready to ship" and hold the line on quality standards.
**E2E Automation:** Build and maintain mobile E2E suites using Maestro, including test data scaffolding, device configuration, helpers, and reporting. Integrate suites into GitHub Actions CI so engineers get fast, trustworthy feedback on every PR. Drive down flakiness and time-to-diagnosis, treating flaky tests as broken tests requiring root-cause investigation.
**AI-Assisted Quality:** Use LLMs and AI tooling day-to-day to accelerate test authoring, cluster failures, surface coverage gaps, and propose fixes. Apply engineering judgment to keep tests trustworthy and decide where AI adds leverage versus where human review is needed.
**Shift-Left Quality:** Partner with product and engineering early in specs, push back on ambiguous acceptance criteria, and surface risk before code is written. Close the loop on production issues using observability tools (Datadog, Sentry, Grafana), tying test coverage back to real customer impact. Run targeted exploratory testing on high-risk releases when warranted.
You will work alongside software engineers, product, and design, operating independently and driving improvements end-to-end across frameworks, CI, test data, and reporting.
**Requirements:**
Essential:
- 6+ years in quality engineering or test automation with a track record of keeping automated suites stable (not letting them rot into quarantined-test graveyards)
- Hands-on experience with Maestro or Detox
- Experience introducing AI-assisted testing practices (test generation, failure clustering, coverage analytics) with sensible controls around review and trust
- Strong TypeScript and JavaScript skills—not just writing test scripts, but building helpers, tooling, and debugging into the app when needed
- Experience shaping CI/CD pipelines for test reliability (GitHub Actions or similar), including flakiness reduction, parallelization, artifact management, and runtime control
- Comfortable with mobile E2E automation, or strong E2E experience on another platform plus a credible plan for getting productive on mobile quickly
- Ability to operate independently and drive improvements end-to-end
Desirable:
- Hands-on experience testing React Native apps
- Mobile performance and reliability work (crash reporting, startup time, memory and battery awareness)
- API and contract testing experience with a point of view on test data and environment strategy
