Duolingo is seeking a Senior Manager for Scaling Operations to lead a small team overseeing contingent workforce and vendor procurement operations. This role sits at the intersection of content systems and AI integration, responsible for transforming manual coordination into scalable, tech-forward workflows.
Key responsibilities include establishing and implementing a vision for freelance and vendor operations, designing durable workflows that replace manual coordination with self-service tooling (centralized contractor management, task assignment, QC loops), and identifying critical resources—both people and technology—needed for scaling initiatives. You will manage a team of program managers and partner cross-functionally with Learning & Curriculum, Product, Engineering, Finance, and Legal teams.
The role focuses on building centralized operations capability for contractor-heavy workflows, improving AI-assisted work quality, automating staffing and assignment routing, and reducing manual effort across partner teams. You'll drive workforce planning and define success metrics for scaling content delivery while maintaining educational excellence.
Required qualifications include people management experience (hiring and developing program management staff), demonstrated operational leadership at scale, strong collaboration and communication skills, and tooling strategy expertise with data-driven opinions on build vs. buy decisions. Exceptional candidates will have proven experience maturing 0-to-1 operations functions into durable, instrumented systems with evaluation loops and anomaly detection, plus experience partnering with engineering on internal tooling and operating systems.
The position is based in either Pittsburgh, PA or New York City, NY, with a salary range of $163,200–$244,800 USD plus equity compensation.
